But it is also also home to two superstar skiers. Britain's best female skier, Chemmy Alcott, is from Hove. And, as our Sports Correspondent Paul Belverstone found out, a 15-year old from Chichester is the best in the world in his age group - despite an obvious lack of snow at home! There's No Doubting Thomas (Surrey Advertiser 20th April 2007) Caption: "Snow stopping us: Louise Thomas with her Sandown Park club-mate Peter Whelan, who won the giant slalom in Meribel" The Surrey Advertiser Reported: " Louise Thomas underlined her Olympic potential as she retained her overall combined title at the British Junior Alpine Championships. The 19-year-old from West Horsley pulled off a clean sweep at Meribel, France, by taking top spot in the slalom, giant slalom and super G events. Thomas, a member of the Esher-based Sandown Park Ski Race Club, previously took part in both the French and British Senior Competitions. Her 13th place in the former, was followed by two podium finishes behind British No 1 Chemmy Alcott in the giant slalom (second) and Super G (third). Thomas, who is now back home for the Summer, was a close fourth in the slalom. The teenager's long term focus is to be ready for the 2009 World Cup and then earn a place in the British team for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver the following year"
