Danny Absalom Joined: 2001 Status: Children 2 Born: 1992 Parents: Liz and John Short Biography: Danny started skiing at the age of 6 with his family and joined Sandown Club at the age of 8. His first races were with Cranmore School and then as a Mini with Sandown. In his second year at children II he was selected for the British Children's Development Squad and traveled out to Slovenia to represent Britain in the Pokal Loka international race. He now skis for Reeds school and has had some good results in last season's races. He does not enjoy racing on plastic but is passionate about his snow skiing and is working on his fitness in preparation for next season.

Peter Bruton Joined: 2000 Status: Junior 2 Born: 1989 Parents: Anna and Gordon Short Biography: Peter began skiing with his family on ski holidays, in France, at the age of 4 and joined SPSRC at the age of 11. Peter was selected to the British Children's Team in CH2 and was a member of the ESSKIA squad at the World Schools Championship in Schladming. At Junior1 Peter was selected to the English Alpine Ski Team (and thence the British Youth Team) where he is currently in the A squad. Recently Peter was awarded the trophy for "The Best Performing Under 18" in Slalom at the British Senior Alpine Championships-Easter 2006. Following this Peter skied to become the Junior1 English Slalom Champion and both the English Overall and Junior1 Super G Champion at the English Championships in PSV 2006.

Matthew Bruton Joined: 1993 Status: Senior Born: 1985 Parents: Anna and Gordon Short Biography: Matt joined SPSRC in 1993 as an 8 year old mini. He was selected twice to the British Children's Team, including Topolino 2000, and also to the ESSKIA team for the World Schools Championship in 2001. Further selections to the English A squad and the British Youth Team followed. Now reading Chemistry at Newcastle University, Matt is also a designated 'University Elite Athlete' for skiing. At the British Universities Ski Championships, held in Les Deux Alps, Easter 2006, Matt achieved 1st SG, 1st GS, 2nd SL, 1st Dual SL and 1st SkierCross to become the reigning 2006 British University Alpine Champion. Matthew also now holds an APC1 qualification (Alpine Performance Coaching 1).

Laurie Carew Joined: 2003 Status: Junior 2 Born: 1990 Parents: Sarah and Patrick Short Biography: Whilst Laurie began skiing aged 6 in France and continued to ski and snowboard regularly for the next six years, a competitive swimming career within the Richmond Borough delayed his entry into ski-racing until he trialled for Sandown aged 12. Since joining, Laurie has been an active member of the club competing in Europe (at BARSC, Scottish Champs, British Land Championships and the Irish Championships in Dublin) and Canada. Thanks to dual nationality status, Laurie obtained his full Irish FIS licence in 2005. Laurie attends King's College School in Wimbledon, where he has captained a ski team for the British International Schoolboys races for the last two years.

Chris Dixon Joined: 1998 Status: Junior 1 Year 2 Born: 1990 Parents: Sue and Nigel Short Biography: Chris first learned to ski at Sandown dry ski slope and within six months had joined SPSRC. He is a veteran of nearly all the training and race camps from the very first Saas Fee Summer camp in 1999. Medal winner at the British International Schoolboys Championships in 2003/4/5/6 as a member of the Hampton school team which in 2006 were both National and International winners overall. Chris obtained his FIS licence in 2005 and took part in his first FIS race in Panorama, Canada, later that year. He also races on plastic and has achieved both individual and team medals, captaining the SPSRC dual slalom team to a number of medal positions. Chris is a member of the ESSKIA squad both on plastic and snow; he was part of the winning U16 Hampton School Team at the 2005 ESSKIA Dry Slope championships and selected for the ESSKIA squad representing England in the World Schools Alpine Championships that year.

J P Espinosa Joined: 2002 Status: Junior 1 Born: 1991 Parents: Nikki and Nic Short Biography: JP started skiing at the age of seven in Mammoth Lakes, California. He quickly progressed through the ranks of ski school. He got his first taste for ski racing at the English mini championships in Kaunertal, Austria, where he met the Sandown gang playing pool in the hotel bar! Instantly he decided that this was the club for him. He broke his leg in October 2002, whilst training in Saas Fee. He made a strong recovery and went on to win the first ever British Children's fitness tests, and a trip to the world cup in Flachau with the British team. In 2006, at the British International Schoolboys races, he won the children 2 slalom and captained the winning children's team for St. Paul's. A year later, as a first year junior 1, he returned to take both bronze in the slalom and a gold in the giant slalom. After completing his first FIS season, he had a successful British junior Championships. He is delighted to have been offered a place on the English team for the 07/08 season. He is proud to race for Mammoth Mountain, Sandown Park and England.

Greg Evans Joined: 1999 Status: 1st Year Junior 2 Born: 1989 Parents: Izabella and Jon Short Biography: Greg started skiing aged 4 in France and within a year of joining Sandown won the BARSC mini Chamoionship. Member of Children's Team in 2000/01. Medal winner at British International Schoolboys 2003, 04, 05 and 06 when he captained the winning Hampton School team and also won Gold in the Slalom at the 2006 BARSC Championships. Obtained his full FIS licence in 2004 and has subsequently competed in Europe and Canada. Currently rankled 8th in his age group in both GS and SL. On plastic he captained the wiinning U16 Hampton School Team at the 2005 ESSKIA championships

Robert Fail Joined: 2006 Status: Children 2 Born: 1993 Parents: Pauline and John Short Biography: To date, Robert's major successes have been as part of the Hampton School team which won the British Schoolboys Open Championship on snow in 2006 and the English School's U16 title on plastic in 2005. He was also a member of the English School's training squad in Norway in 2006. Robert first put on 'skis' at the age of 2, although he didn't really start skiing until the age of 4. He started racing on plastic at the age of 9, first with Bracknell and then Aldershot ski race clubs. He joined Sandown at the end of 2005 in order to concentrate on snow racing. As well as racing he enjoys free skiing, tricks, and in particular big jumps. Robert also enjoys many other sports including badminton, rugby and cricket.

George Harris Joined: 2000 Status: Children 2 Born: 1992 Parents: John and Jaqui Short Biography: George has skied ever since he could walk and first learnt how to ski in Val d'Isere. He regularly attends many of the race and training camps organized by Sandown and, whilst he has had success in the past on the dry slope (he came second overall in the regional races in 2005), prefers being in the mountains and racing on the snow. George is a bit of a free spirit and whilst he enjoys his ski racing he also wants to ski off piste and perform tricks wherever he can!! He is also a member of the very successful Reeds School ski team who came first at the British Schoolboys in 2006. His father, John, is one of the coach's at Sandown.

Andreas Lind Joined: 2004 Status: Children 2 Born: 1992 Parents: Erik and Tove Short Biography: Andreas was born in Norway and lived there on and off until he was 12. He started skiing when he was three and was a member of the Herning Sports Club, competing in local races throughout the winters whenever he was there. Andreas has competed regularly since joining Sandown and has gained a number of good positions already, having come 4th in the GS at the British International Schoolboys in 2006 as well as 4th again in the GS and 6th in the SL at the Inter-schools races at Les Houches in 2006. Andreas is a keen sportsman, enjoying golf, Cross Country running, tennis, basketball and off-road cycling! He attends the ACS International school in Cobham.

James Sieber Joined: 2004 Status: 1st Year Mini 2 Born: 1996 Parents: Val and Ray Short Biography: James started skiing aged 4 and joined Sandown when he was 8. In 2005 he came 3rd in the Mini GS race at the British Championships in Meribel and in 2006 he gained silver medals in both the GS and Dual Slalom at the British International Schoolboys races. On the dry slopes he won the U11 category at the SATIPS races in 2006 and was a member of the Silver medal U13 team. He has numerous placings in National and Regional dry slope races, gained gold at both the Norfolk and Suffolk Nationals and the Aldershot, Brentwood and Bromley Regionals.and, most recently, came 1st overall in the LSERSA 2006 series. He lives in West Clandon in Surrey and attends Cranmore School.

Peter Edwin Whelan Joined: 1999 Status: Junior 2 Born: 1989 Parents: Kay and John Short Biography: Peter learned to ski on plastic at the age of eight and did not set a 'ski' on snow until the Christmas of 1998. Peter joined SPSRC as a snow associate, as at the time was a member of the now defunct Hillingdon Ski Squad, and went on the first ever SPR Snow camp in the summer of 1999. His first title was the British Mini Champion at the Easter Champs 2000 held in Pitztal, followed by four successive years as a member of the British Children's Ski Team. For the last two seasons Peter has skied full time with the Home Nations Development Squad. At the beginning of this season (2006-2007) it was announced that Peter had made selection to the Full British Land Alpine Team, he is the youngest male ever to have achieved this.
