Helena Bray Joined: 1995 Status: Senior Born: 1988 Parents: Angela and Stephen Short Biography: Helena started skiing in Italy at the age of four, and joined Sandown Park when she was seven. In 2000/1 she was unbeaten in domestic snow races, winning every Ch 1 event at the BARSC, Schoolgirls and British Children's championships. In 2001/2 and 2002/3 she was British overall Ch 2 champion, winning the GS and SuperG titles in both years, and in the latter year she won the overall Slalom title at the Schoolgirls. In 2003/4 she was British Jnr 1 GS champion. Helena was a member of the British Children's team from 1999 to 2003, representing GB at Topolino in 2001 and 2003. She was selected to the England Alpine A Squad in 2003/4 and 2004/5. Helena won a gold medal rowing for Great Britain in 2005 at the Home Countries International, and in 2006 she represented Great Britain at the Munich Junior International Regatta and at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Holland, where she won three gold medals. Helena is now back in training and will race in the Alps in 2007/8.

Jo Jo Carew Joined: 2004 Status: Children 2 Born: 1993 Parents: Sarah and Patrick Short Biography: Jojo started skiing at the age of three and joined Sandown when she was 10. Since then Jojo has taken part in all the Swiss and French training/race camps run by Sandown to improve and perfect her technique. Her hard work resulted in 6th position in her age group for GS at the British races this year. In October 2005, Jojo joined her brother in Dublin for the Irish Championships and won 3rd place in Children 1 Girls. Ski-racing is her favourite sport but Jojo also enjoys netball, tennis and cricket. She attends St. Paul's Girls' School in Hammersmith.

Hanne Davis Joined: 2001 Status: Senior Born: 1988 Parents: Margaret and Christian Short Biography: Hanne started skiing with her parents at 18 months, and after skiing regularly and competing in many ESF races, she began training and racing on the British circuit aged 12. She has worked hard throughout the children categories, having to compete against others who had been racing for years before her, and on entry to junior level became a member of the Irish Ski Team, representing her Country at the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2005. Most recently she raced with Helena Bray and Alex Emerton at the British Schoolgirls races, going on to win the overall team prize and individually placing 10th in the GS. Sadly, because of A Level exams Hanne had to miss the Easter races in 2005 and 2006, but she hopes on entry to university to join the ski team and keep up her training and racing as well as studying.

Mollie Dendle Joined: 2005 Status: Children 2 Born: 1993 Parents: Lisa and Martin Short Biography: Mollie started skiing at 7 and started ski racing at 9! She enjoys skiing and likes the sensation of winning! She is determined and never gives up! Mollie also enjoys most sports including: Lacrosse, rounders, netball and athletics. Mollie skis for her school at the ESSKIA races and went away to Norway with ESSKIA in 2006! Mollie was delighted to have been a member of the LEH school team that won the British Opens at Hill End and the English Opens at Hemel Hempstead in 2005! On snow Mollie enjoys GS most of all but she is always willing to try hard in all disciplines!

Kirsty Dixon Joined: 2000 Status: Child 2 Year 2 Born: 1992 Parents: Sue and Nigel Short Biography: Kirsty learned to ski on the dry slope at Sandown aged 6 and then practiced her snow skills on family holidays and trips to Saas Fee before she was selected to join SPSRC aged 8. She has attended nearly all Sandown training and race camps since then. Kirsty won individual gold in Slalom and GS at the 2005 DHO Xmas Championships in Wengen. She is a member of the Lady Eleanor Holles School team who were overall champions at the British Schoolgirls Championships in 2005 and 2006. Kirsty is a member of the ESSKIA squad both on plastic and snow; she was in the winning U16 LEH School Team at the 2004/5 ESSKIA Dry Slope championships. The LEH team was also the overall ESSKIA English and British School champions in 2005. She has attended the ESSKIA snow camps in Norway for the past two years.

Rebecca Duggan Joined: 2001 Status: Junior 2 Born: 1989 Parents: Rachel and Alan Short Biography: Rebecca began skiing at Sandown's dry ski slope at the age of 5. Her potential was spotted by coach Kevin Blanks, who suggested a trial for SPSRC and she was the 1st ever child to join a race camp having never skied on snow! Rebecca went on to win the U14 SATIPS race in 2001, she has since competed in Europe at the BARCS races, Scottish Championships, British Land Championships and most recently in Panorama Canada FIS races 2005. Rebecca attends Tormead School in Guildford.

Alice MacAulay Joined: 2006 Status: Children 1 Born: 1995 Parents: Chris and Peter Short Biography: Alice's first trip to the snow was at 12 weeks old! She started skiing at 3 and shortly after joining Sandown achieved 8th position in the mini girls section at the british Championships in Meribel in 2006. Alice is in her school ski team and the ESSKIA training squad. She went to Pitztal, Austria with ESSKIA in March 2006. At the 2006 Club Championships Alice came first in the Girls Child 1 group. Alice is also interested in trampolining and sport in general and her mother says that she is willing to give anything a go!. She has an older brother (Gavin) and an older sister (Stephanie) and goes to Surbiton High School.

Imogen Taylor Joined: 2005 Status: Children 1 Born: 1994 Parents: Alex and Dion Short Biography: Imogen started skiing at the age of two and much to her parents' distress had a fear of heights. The only thing that would stop her bellowing whilst on the chairlift was copious quantities of sweets. At age 12 her fear of heights are well under control, sadly her love of sweets not. Imogen enjoys speed and in her early days on the slopes blamed her parents for some exceptional yard sales whilst following mum or dad. Sadly the days of following will now most likely be her parents trying to keep up with Imogen! Imogen joined Sandown in May 2005 and competed in her first on snow competition at the B.A.R.S.C championships in Les Menuires France in January 2006. Her first ever event much to her parents dismay was a Super G in which she achieved a credible 7th position in Children 1. She enjoys the camaraderie and team spirit of the Sandown club and is looking forward to winter 2006/07, with lots of time on snow

Isadora Taylor Joined: 2006 Status: Mini Born: 1997 Parents: Alex and Dion Short Biography: Izzy joined Sandown just before the British Juniors in Meribel in April 2006. This was her first competitive ski race, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The pre-race camp was a real highlight for her being put under the instruction of John Harris who gave the minis a fantastic time skiing and developing their technique whilst taking them all over the mountain, telling them lots of jokes and nicking all their sweets. The atmosphere on camp was excellent, especially for the little ones to be able to watch and mix with the juniors, who provided an excellent example to follow both on and off the slopes. After the snow season she took part in a number of LSERSA dry slope races which she started to enjoy once she stopped getting lost through the mass of red and blue slalom poles.

Louise Thomas Joined: 1995 Status: Junior 2 Born: 1988 Parents: Anne and Peter Short Biography: I started skiing at the age of 3 but didn't start racing until children 1 first year. I gained immediate selection to the British children's team for four successive years. In 2003 I went to the children's world championships in Topolino, Italy where I finished 36th. Also in 2003 I won the GS British Schoolgirls and at the BARSC. In 2004 I won the British schoolgirls slalom and overall title. I also made my debut on the FIS racing scene and gained selection to the England 'A' squad. In 2005 I gained my first podium finishes in FIS races and again won the British Schoolgirls title. I also went to the European youth olympics where I finished 19th overall. Most recently in 2006 I won the British Junior championship title, which has been one of my most pleasing results to date. Amy Young Joined: 2006 Status: Children 1 Born: 1995 Parents: Sally and Tim Short Biography: Amy started skiing on holiday when she was three years old and has never looked back. She has been racing on plastic since she was seven years old. Amy has represented her school in many races and been part of the winning team on numerous occasions. Amy is a member of the ESSKIA training squad and enjoyed her training in Pitztal in 2006. She is looking forward to her first snow races next season. Amy is competitive at all sports - she competes in tennis matches for her club, and loves netball, hockey, rounders and cross-country running.
