James was also a co-winner of the Bartlett Trophy for most improved Skier. On the day itself Podium Places were gained by Chris Dixon, Eloise Greenhalgh, James Sieber, Alice Taylor, Amy Young and Ella Young with Robert Fail and Alice Taylor both frustratingly just one place outside the medals on this occasion. A great dry slope season, well done all!
The annual Club Chamipionships took place on Sunday 25th June 2006. Despite the early 8am start, with some great racing, the sun shining down on us and bacon rolls in good supply, a good day was had by all. It was especially pleasing to have so many of our Junior Racers present. We were delighted to have one of our Swiss Trainers, Corrinne Maurer as our guest, having specially flown over to join us. Prizes were presented by Corinne and by Trina Head, the reigning British Champion, who, everyone was very pleased to hear, will be joining the training team with effect from the Summer Camp.In his speech, Kevin gave a warm thanks to coach John Harris and all the committe members and parents for their considerable contributions to the success of the club. Of course it goes without saying that everyone is equally grateful to Kevin, Heinz, Corrine and all the other members of the coaching team for their munificent efforts for the club.A full account of all the racing and all the various race and end of season prize winners is being prepared by Sarah Carew for the newsletter, in the meantime the race results can be accessed by clicking here to download the pdf file (22Kb). Congatulations to all the racers who put on a great show.
2006 has seen fewer racers on the Club national circuit, with many preferring to stick with snow racing this year. However, those that have attended have put in some great performances once their plastic legs have been re-found!Racers at the Nationals have included Peter Bruton, Matthew Bruton, Laurie Carew, Jo Jo Carew, Chris Dixon, Kirsty Dixon, Eloise Greenhalgh, James Sieber, Clementine Fiell, Alice MacAulay, Amy Young, Imogen Taylor and Izzy Taylor - with most achieving top 10 positions and many placings in the top 5. Just as importantly for UK based skiers without ready access to snow, all have clearly benefited from the race practice that the series offers.Mini James Sieber (pictured) has had a particularly successful season, following a close third place at Chatham with another third at Pontypool and excellent wins at both Norfolk and Suffolk, the latter in a time which would have won him Children 1 as well!
The first race of the LSERSA series saw a great turnout from the younger members of the club with one or two more experienced faces around in support! In all we had 16 racers present and special mention must go to our mini girls who took 5 of the 6 podium places in the first two age groups. Congratulations to Alice Taylor, Ella Youg, Amy Young, Alice MacAulay and James Sieber for bringing home more medals. Many of our other racers were very unlucky not to join them, with Chris Dixon skiing out during a storming third run and Robert Fail, Mollie Dendle, Niamh Woolven and Isadora Taylor all frustratingly just outside the medal positions. Their turn will surely come!Chris and Co got their own back, even surprising coach John Harris, by taking third place in the team event after a last minute decision to enter. On the day, the team which included Chris Dixon, James Sieber, Robert Fail and Graham Weston were a match for anyone and were very unlucky not to make the final. And finally some more medals in the scratch team event for Mollie Dendle (Gold), Imogen Taylor (Silver) and Ella Young (Bronz). Well Done Everyone!
